Acatenango Volcano base camp// 2022
I am doing something different. I am going to share a recent story because it is something I want to write about. For the last couple of weeks I have been in Guatemala. It has been an amazing experience. The country itself is very interesting. There are very many tourists which was unexpected. In the bigger cities like Antigua, most things are over-priced or ‘tourist priced’. If you travel to Guatemala everyone talks about climbing the volcano. It is a must-do if you ever visit. What that means is hiking 5-6 hours to a base camp of Acatenango Volcano. You then have dinner cooked by the guides over the campfire while watching the nearby volcano Fuego explode every 5-15 minutes. At 4 am you wake up and climb to the top of Acatenango where you watch the sunrise. It is one of those moments where you are truly thankful for the life you are living.
On this volcano trek, I met some cool people. Sierra 22 from Montreal, Doug 25 from New York City and Jordan 24 from the UK. We all got along really well. We travelled to Lake Atitlán on the same shuttle however Sierra and Doug went to Santa Cruz while Jordan and I went to San Pedro, different communities on the same lake. While in San Pedro Jordan and I went to a couple of dinners together and ended up in a bit of a fling. He had just gotten out of two-year relationship with someone in Mexico and I had just ended a shorter but still intense relationship. We both know that it is only a physical relationship.
After 3 days of just Jordan and I, Sierra and Doug came to San Pedro as well. This was good news. Doug and Jordan were staying together and Sierra and I were in two separate hostels. Jordan works while travelling, writing crypto articles, so Sierra and I went to San Marcos another community on the lake for a day trip. San Marcos is known for a slower hippie vibe, more connections to nature and drugs. We had a mission to find mushrooms. After asking a couple of people with dreadlocks we found a guy with some mushroom chocolates. We bought 5 of them. The hippie that we purchased them from did a little prayer to the mushroom and wished us a good trip. We then headed back to San Pedro via water taxi.
That night we all meet up for dinner and drinks. I was feeling tipsy after the happy hour and I started looking on Air BnB for places where we could do the mushrooms. I stumbled across a treehouse for 60 dollars and said I didn’t care if anyone chipped in because it was where I wanted to do the mushrooms, so I booked it. That night we went pretty hard and I ended up sleeping at Jordan’s hotel and Doug ended up at Sierra’s.
Treehouse we stayed in//2022
The morning rolled around, I checked out of my hostel, went grocery shopping with Sierra then met the boys at the docks. We hopped in a water taxi and headed to our private dock. The place was amazing. We had one acre of land, a dock and a treehouse. Right away we took the chocolates and went to the dock. Since it was only a gram the experience was amazing. We were constantly laughing and enjoying our time a little high. At one point I went back to grab a sweater. I then got distracted getting the jacket and ended up painting. I was enjoying my time watching the paint flow off the brush while having all these gentle thoughts.
Maybe 30 minutes later everyone came up from the docks to grab another beer. The sun was going to set soon so we all walked back down to the water. The colours of the sky were phenomenal, we were truly taking in every moment. We then went on what I like to call a mushroom mission, which means a beer run. We went on a 30-minute walk to town. When we arrived back at the treehouse we all cooked dinner together. It was like a family supper. I have never eaten that fast. We drank a while longer then headed into the treehouse to go to bed. There was only one big bed so we all squeezed together. I was the only one who got up to watch the sunrise in the morning but it was nice to connect to Lake Atitlán alone. After 20 minutes I went back to bed.
When I awoke again it was 8:30 am. Sierra and I had a party boat booked for 10 am back in San Pedro. We packed up our bags and left the boys sleeping in the bed. We headed down to our dock and waved our arms at taxi boats to come to pick us up.
The party boat was the raunchiest, rowdiest party boat I have ever been on. Right away people were snorting cocaine and ketamine, doing acid, molly and whatever else you can think of. People were hanging off the boat peeing and puking. Everyone was making out on the dance floor and I was kinda just like what the actual fuck is going on. It was so disturbing to me for some reason. I felt like I was at a high school party with twelve-year-olds. I saved this one British guy from breaking his neck by trying to backflip off the 3rd story of this boat, then stole his sunglasses (but I think he stole mine 2 nights before so it’s okay, plus I saved his life.) After 4 hours of chaos and being surrounded by people who were messed right up, I called Jordan to ask if I could nap at their place. They allowed me and that is where I am going to leave the story.
Just so you are aware I do not typically drink all the time when I travel. This was also my first time doing any type of drug in another country. I have never done any drugs that haven’t been grown from the earth. At the boat party when everyone was very messed up I stopped drinking to protect myself from predators and I checked in on Sierra whenever I could to make sure she was doing okay. Just so people do not think I am total degenerate.
This is what I think of mushrooms:
It is healthy to take them every 3-6 months. A lot of new moms micro-dos with mushrooms. You need to prepare your mindset before you take them. If you are hesitant to take them then you should not. I bought the treehouse for the night to have a safe place to do them. I would only do mushrooms around people you are comfortable with. Before each trip, a discussion should take place on how you want people to react if they start having a bad trip. You can always do more mushrooms but you can not take any back, so start small and if you feel comfortable adding more, then do so in moderation. Do not abuse the drug by doing it often and do not mix it with a lot of alcohol. If you take this advice then I recommend everyone should try it, it is a good reset on your outlook on life.
A bit of a later post today. I had some type of food poisoning mixed with period cramps the last few days so I am taking it easy. Thursday I am thinking of doing a birthday special because it is my birthday but we shall see. See ya soon ya hooligans. xx
